Sergio started rock climbing extensively in Brazil as well as in Latin America, USA and Africa in 1979. He first began guiding and instructing rock climbing professionally in 1987 when he also started instructing for the police and fire department. Sergio has as been a member of AGUIPERJ (Rio de Janeiro Guiding Association) since 2004.

Sergio was one of the climbers in the movie EXTREMO SUL on Monte Sarmiento in the Chilean Patagonia.
Sergio is currently living right next to Tres Picos State Park where he owns and manages Refugio das Aguas climbing hut. When he is not hosting at the hut Sergio is either climbing or guiding on one of the Tres Picos monumental routes.
